Getting traffic online should not be hard nor boring. In fact, it has to be fun especially now when we see these social media and web 2.0 sites spring like crazy.

While most traffic getting strategies and tactics are dull and boring, there are a few who are quite fun to implement. And one of them is exposed in today’s tip.

Before I tell you about it, let me share with you a key aspect about getting traffic online:

*** this should not be a goal in itself. In fact, if you network with other people, and when you publish great content on your blog, the traffic floods in, all by itself.

Here’s the service which makes things easier - 43 things dot com.

you can join 43 Things and write a list of ‘43 things’ you want to achieve (include your blog url in the list too).

If you did not hear about this yet, you can now learn more:

43 Things is the world’s most popular online goal setting community. It’s free and fun. All you need is to create your account at 43 things dot com.

Here are some of its cool benefits:

  1. List your goals. What do you want to do with your life? 43 things helps you figure it out.
  2. Record your progress. Ask questions and talk with like-minded people.
  3. Cheer people on the site who inspire you (hint - they may cheer you back)

If you want to get more blog traffic, all you have to do is this:

A. create an account with your real name as the user name (this is needed for branding purpose and to expose your name out there as you have to be visible, or you’ll get little traffic and results)

B. when you create your profile, make sure you take advantage of all its options. There are fields where you can include your blog/site url - that’s how you’re going to be visible to anyone viewing your profile (it’s smart you write a short description about yourself in the “About me” option.

C. be pro active on this site on a regular basis. If you expect a flood of traffic by posting just a few times, you’re doing yourself a disservice. You better try something else.

D. create several ‘goals’ list so that you become a more visible person, thus getting you more profile views (indirectly). I think it’s ok to include mentions to pages on your blog url within your list content for as long it’s targeted to your goal(s).

The 43 things FAQ page is a good helper by the way.

I plan to pay closer attention to this service and will play with it for awhile as it looks quite interesting and I can see its potential in terms of networking with other people, making friends and getting blog traffic

Just remember - getting traffic shouldn’t be an aim in itself.

In the next post (within 7 days) I’ll send an update to show my 43 things list/profile and share my results with you, just stay tuned.
